The Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge was searched for Carex in Levy County in 2011 and Dixie County in 2012. Carex species from Levy and Dixie County LSNWR were scanned and micro-imaged, then sent to University of Florida herbaria. The number of Carex known from UF-Tampa herbarium for Levy and Dixie Counties was 19 species. One new county record was set for Dixie County with C. bromoides Schkuhr ex Willd. A possible new variety or hybrid of C. gigantea Rudge was discovered and could increase the LSNWR inventory to 21 Carex species.
